5 Unusual signs of intelligence
There are many ways to test your intelligence and many articles written about them. All the articles and research about intelligence emphasize on the usual side of intelligence. But, in this article, we are going to see the unusual side of the signs of intelligence. Science has recently discovered a few rather unusual signs of intelligence that you haven’t even considered.
Here are 5 unusual signs of intelligence:
1. A Little Clutter Means Innovation and Creativity
We often hear things like "organization is the key" and "a clean room is a clean mind". But is it all true? Well, according to research tidiness may not be beneficial for creativity. According to an article by the Association for Psychological Science, a team of researchers found out that there is an association between intelligent people and messy, cluttered settings.

2. You’re politically liberal
According to Satoshi Kanazawa, an American-British evolutionary psychologist at London School of Economics and Political Science, smart people tend to be socially liberal in their outlook and this could be for evolutionary reasons. He suggests that intelligent people look for novel ideas rather than sticking to conservative ones. Intelligent people are more likely to recognise and understand novel entities and situations than less intelligent people.
Intelligence is correlated with socially and economically liberal views. Data from National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health found that young adults who identify themselves as 'very liberal" have an average IQ of 106 during adolescence and those who identify themselves as “very conservative” have an average IQ of 95 during the same age. It was also found that countries whose citizens score low on international tests of mathematics achievement tend to be more conservative in their political outlooks and policies.

3. You struggle to get out of bed
How is this related to intelligence you ask? Well, a research found that sleeping in might not be something you should feel guilty about. According to a British study “Why night owls are more intelligent”, being in control of when you go to sleep and wake up is a sign of intelligence. The snooze button is a relatively new invention and is something that evolution has not prepared us for.
According to the authors, Kanazawa and Kaja Perina, being able to hit the snooze and adapting to this new way of living and sleeping may mean you’re more intellectual. Ignoring the rule of waking up as soon as your alarm sounds and acting on what your body needs instead means that you are more likely to follow your ambitions and deal with your problems yourself. The authors also argue that this makes you more creative and independent.

A similar study undertaken by the University of Southampton supports this scientific report. The study was done by taking a look at the socioeconomic situations of 1,229 people in correlation with their sleeping patterns. It showed that people who went to bed after 11 pm and got up after 8 am earned more money and enjoyed a happier lifestyle. Although sleeping too much isn’t advised, your creative, intelligent mind may blossom during those morning sleep-ins.
4. You’re thin
According to a study in 2006, scientists analyzed data from 2,223 healthy workers aged 32 to 62 and found that the bigger their waistline was, the lower was their cognitive ability. Another study showed that a lower childhood IQ often lead to obesity and weight gain in adulthood. In the study, 11-year-olds who scored lower on verbal and nonverbal tests were more likely to be obese in their 40s.

5. You're physically lazy and enjoy being alone
According to research found in LSE and Singapore Management, socializing with friends was linked to unhappiness for highly intelligent people. The researchers wrote, "More intelligent individuals experience lower life satisfaction with more frequent socialization with friends." Did you know laziness is also linked to intelligence? Well, according to research it may be.
Many of us tend to look down on slobs who sit watching Netflix all night and never drag themselves to the gym. But physical laziness might actually be a sign that someone is a deep thinker, a new study has suggested. Researchers from Florida Gulf Coast University rated 60 volunteers using a ‘Need for Cognition’ test – dividing them into ‘thinkers’ and ‘non-thinkers’. They then monitored their physical activity for a week – and found that the ‘non-thinkers’ tended to be much more active than the thinkers.
