10 places that the world wants you to forget forever!
We often say that the world is your oyster. Well, today we will deny this opinion since there are places where you’re not allowed to enter. These forbidden places stay in hands of their respective governments and in the name of “the national security” they want you to forget those places.
You can’t visit those places, but you can read about them, right?
1. Gruinard Island, Scotland
In brief, during the Second World War, Great Britain decided to perform dangerous tests of chemical warfare and since that time the island is completely abandoned.
2. Metro-2, Moscow
We all perfectly know that the Soviets were the best at hiding secrets. Metro-2 is a parallel subway line to the famous Moscow subway line built during Stalin's times. The code was D-6 and it was built in order to evacuate political leaders in the case of a nuclear attack.
3. Fort Knox, Kentucky
Who gets to know the history of this place understands why the government wants this place’s existence forgotten. Fort Knox is situated in Kentucky, south Louisville and there are stored the biggest quantities of american gold. It contains approximately 2,3% of the whole gold that has ever been extracted throughout human history. In April of 2016, Fort Knox had 4582 metric tons of gold. It’s not strange that, starting from western stories, it was a main target for many thieves.
4. Snake Island, Brazil
Ilha da Queimada Grande, known also as Snake Island, is located on the Brazilian coast and is inhabited by… snakes. Yes, simply snakes. This place could be a true nightmare for everyone afraid of snakes. Scientists claim there are 3-5 snakes for every square metre. OMG!
5. Global Seed Vault, Spitsbergen
The Global Seed Vault is a vault for seeds that may be used in the case of a worldwide environmental crisis. It’s situated in Spitsbergen, Norway, and very few people have an access to this place. Even the countries that donate seeds are not allowed to accede there.
6. North Sentinel Island
The North Sentinel Island is home to a group of indigenous people: the Sentinelese. Those people have never had contact with any other human race and basically they are not affected by civilization. Due to this fact, they have no immunity against many germs that could kill them and that’s the reason behind closing this island for other people.
7. Area 51
It is located deep in Nevada territory. Area 51 is one of the most popular secret military bases of the United States. It was used to test weaponry and to conduct other top secret research.
8. Ise Grand Shrine, Japan
The Shrine is situated in the city of Ise and it has been established to praise the goddess of the sun, Amaterasu. It’s one of the most sacred shrines in Japan and you’re only allowed to visit the main chapel, while the interior shrine is completely closed to the public.
9. Office 39, North Korea
In a place like North Korea everything is forbidden, starting from owning a car and finishing with having your favorite hairstyle. However, Office 39 is the toppest secret place in the country. This place is known for leading nuclear programs and illegal activity, such as dollar counterfeiting and much more.
10. Surtsey Island
Surtsey Island was born due to a volcanic eruption in 1963 and starting from that point, it increasingly attracted the curiosity of scientists. Nowadays, access is restricted because of numerous scientific experiments that are held right there.
