9 Actors who got dangerously sick because of the sacrifices they made for their role
Actors earn big money mainly because they devote themselves to their work. Many of them do stunt scenes by themselves, even more than once, putting their lives in jeopardy (more on this topic to read here). Most of them also, try so very much to prepare to play the character and also to give their best performance. Unfortunately, such engagement can also end with a loss or health risk.
1. Ashton Kutcher "Jobs"
Actor Ashton Kutcher felt that Apple's creator role would be a great opportunity for him. Not only did he become strikingly similar to the character he played; he let his grow hair and learned to walk like Steve Jobs. He also went on a special diet. Jobs was a fruitarian, meaning he ate mostly fruit. For an actor, however, this diet proved to be very harmful. A few days before the shooting began, he was hospitalized with pancreatitis.

2. Daniel Day-Lewis "Gangs of New York"
Daniel Day-Lewis is known for being strongly devoted to the role and he does a lot of "crazy" preparation for characters he plays. And just before shooting a "Gangs of New York" to feel like a half-madman, Bill the Butcher that he played, the actor wore a thin coat and walked along the streets of New York. Because it was a December and the temperature was below zero, he got sick of pneumonia.
3. Jonah Hill "The Wolf of Wall Street"
Another Martin Scorsese movie that caused a lot of health troubles... As we know this is a movie not only about the money but also illegal substance. Of course, while shooting actors used vitamin powder, actually crushed B vitamins. Jonah Hill said that after making so many scenes in which he was doing so much inhaling he got bronchitis and had to be hospitalized.

4. Kate Winslet “Titanic”
Although the role of Rose DeWitt Bukater brought Kate Winslet great fame and started her long friendship with Leonardo DiCaprio, it was also very demanding. Many shots in cold water caused health problems. The actress was one of the few who denied wearing a diving foam in water scenes. And since the scenes were filmed for hours Kate got pneumonia.
5. Leonardo DiCaprio "The Revenant"
To get the coveted Oscar, Leonardo Dicaprio did not only played well but also got sick. It is a known fact that while filming The Revenant, the whole crew had problems because of scenes with cold water and endlessly difficult weather conditions. Dicaprio said that he got sick many times during filming, and many scenes were done when he suffered from a strong cold.

6. John Rhys-Davies "Lord of the Rings"
One of this movie characters, dwarf Gimli required special makeup. An actor had a certain skin applied on his face. Unfortunately, Rhys-Davies was allergic to one or more ingredients. He got an itchy rash, irritation, and swelling of the eye area. It was difficult for him to stand it and work. That's why the actor refused to play this character again in new series "Hobbit". He was afraid and claimed that his face had already suffered enough.
7. Emma Watson "Noah"
It is said that director Darren Aronofsky wanted his movie set to be environmentally friendly and asked to not drink bottled water. Once Emma drunk a lot of the water that unfortunately was not fresh and the actress suffered from stomach pain and vomits for the whole night. The next day director looked at her and said that they will use her exhausted appearance for further scenes.

8. Tom Hanks "Cast Away"
Cast Away is a movie about a guy who needs to survive alone on a deserted island. For Tom Hanks not gaining or losing weight was the most challenging while filming. When he was shooting he had a lot of scratches and bruises. One of them caused a leg infection and swelling. Medical staff told him that he got Staphylococcus, so he needed to go to the hospital or he would die.
9. Salman Khan "Bajrangi Bhaijaan"
One of the most successful and grossing movies in India also caused health problems to its leading actor. It is said that while filming Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman Khan had caught an ear infection and sinusitis. It was so serious that he couldn’t film for two days and after that, he continued shooting only thanks to strong painkillers.
