Bollywood celebrities who have been body shamed tell their story and have some advice to share with you!
Being body shamed is something that happens mostly to girls than to boys and the reason can be because we are under this pressure of being perfect! Have you ever paid attention to the fact that when we think about the word ‘model’ a fine figured lady is the only image that pops up in our mind?! What do you think is the reason to that!? They have created this image of beauty and standards for women that is not possible for everyone to achieve and then they get body shamed if they are a little bit far from the idea of beauty!
This not only happens to 'normal' people in their daily life but also to celebrities. In fact, in celebrities case, it is a lot more severe than what normal people receive. The anger and the broken feeling people have inside turns into criticism when it comes to celebrities. They fat shame them, slim shame them, whatever you might think of. No matter how perfect they try to be, people still find a flaw and point it out. Some of the celebrities became candid about it and shared what they experienced with us.
Here are some of them.

She possesses numerous awards such as one National Film Award and five Filmfare Awards. And yes! Even this former beauty pageant faced problems with her image! She said: “Before I became an actor, I met a producer about the possibility of acting. I was a beauty pageant winner at that time, Miss World.”

“And he said that everything was wrong about me. He said my nose was not proportionate, the shape of my body was not proportionate. There is such a false perception about what women should look like and what our bodies should look like. Especially when you are in the (film) business, you put on a couple of pounds and people are like... body shaming you. It happens. Christmas happens to all of us. I am an Indian. I have Holi, I have Diwali, I have hundred holidays and my body fluctuates and you know what... I am fine with it."
Sonam Kapoor who is always advocating women empowerment and positive body image also has been through this path! She said: "I constantly worried that, if asked to dance in a backless choli, rolls of back fat would give me away as an imposter to the industry. Nobody lines up to buy tickets to see cellulite. The ball is in the media's court to celebrate fit bodies rather than thin ones, and to know the difference. I know now that there's nothing wrong with stretch marks, cellulite, or scars. They're markers of our growth. There's beauty in their realness."

How Sonam is turning this into an inspirational move is also fascinating. You can see all her photos that are before getting ready and after and she has a reason for that as well, “The one thing that I truly believe in is to never give young girls or women, who follow me, a false perception of who I am. That’s why there’s always a ‘before’ and ‘after’ image that goes up. There’s a lot of effort that goes into making me look this way, it’s my job.”
“There are a lot of professionals working on me and it takes a lot of money. I don’t want girls to think that it’s easy or that this is how I wake up. I want to remind these girls that it’s OK to celebrate yourself but also to not put so much pressure on yourself. I am a disaster in the morning. I want everyone to know that beyond all of this, there is a regular, normal girl who has bad skin, bad hair days, and cellulite and sometimes is not self-confident at all.” Hearing such words from someone like her means so much to us, ladies!
You will never believe who the NEXT celebrity victim is!
Even Deepika had her own share of problems regarding body shamers. "I have no issue celebrating my body and I have never shied away from anything on-screen to portray a character. My issue is you propagating the objectification of a REAL person, and not a character being played. Sure, dissect my characters if you wish. If it is of so much interest, then discuss the character’s cup size and leg length if it is relevant to making the role convincing. All I am asking for is respect as a woman off-screen."
What surprises us all the time is that people body shame you even if you are thin! What else figure are you supposed to possess so that they would stop criticising you!? Lisa Haydon experienced thin shaming! "People always think that if you’re on the larger side or you’re overweight, then you (develop) a complex. But I think being a really skinny kid (gives you a) complex too. I just remember being picked on for being a toothpick. Really skinny and really tall. Eventually, you fill out and then, you tend to not put on weight when you’re older. But, when you’re younger and if you’re really thin, people just make fun of you."
