Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan's baby boy is here!

Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan’s much-awaited son was just born, and the Internet is already having their opinions on his name. Kareena gave birth to a son and his parents named him Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi. It’s a relief to know that the baby is not named with one of the many ship names of the couple. Imagine the little boy being called Saifeena, however, that’s a pretty name for a girl.

The birth of the Saifeena baby has the whole film industry celebrating. They all took their good wishes and congratulatory messages to Twitter. Saif released a statement to the media, “We are very pleased to share with you all the wonderful news about the birth of our son: Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi, on the 20th of December 2016”. Randhir Kapoor, Kareena’s father, also took it to the media to express his happiness in becoming a grandfather again. He said “We are very happy. The baby is fine and so is Kareena. All of us are absolutely delighted”.

Since the name of the baby was revealed, Indian Twitterati couldn’t stop themselves from weighing in on the name too. We quickly decided to do some research of our own, to see what the hype about this name was all about. Twitter seems to think that the baby’s name, Taimur, was inspired by Timur or Tamerlane, who was a Central Asian invader who wrecked Delhi in 1398.

Timur had created chaos, destruction and a bloody massacre, that it took almost a century for the city to recover. Capture of Delhi was arguably one of Timur’s greatest victories. Only because he was responsible for the downfall of one of the richest cities during that time. However, the name actually has a few meanings of its own, like the brave king, iron, and famous king.

There are other sources on the Internet that say, according to history, Timur Shah was the second ruler of the Durrani Empire and the son of Ahmad Shah Durrani. There are more chances of the couple naming their son after a king (the good one, not the mass murderer) after all, Saif is known as the Nawab of Pataudi or Nawab of Bollywood. So it only makes sense that the Nawab Jr. has a royal name of his own.

The name created a buzz throughout social media. As usual Indian, Twitterati couldn’t resist themselves on commenting on the name. Some of the users associated the name with the infamous King Timur, who of course is not a favorite of all, while the rest gave their suggestions for a better name for the child. But it’s pretty clear from the tweets that the end verdict is that the name Taimur, is improper.

The duo welcomed their newest addition to the family in the early morning of 20th December 2016, in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. Little did they know that although everyone is happy for them, the Internet can be a little harsh sometimes. And we think they should make another statement on what inspired them to choose the name Taimur, just to clear up all the confusion. For all we know, they must be unaware of the fact that the name is also one of the most dreaded names in the history books.

All things aside, this is a happy occasion for everyone, no matter the name, we already love the little bundle of joy. Let’s all put the hatred of the name away and look at the bright side, that the name means ‘brave king’ or ‘iron’. Saif had also added in his statement that: “We would like to thank the media for understanding and support they have given us over the last 9 months, and of course especially our fans and well wishers for their continued affection. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all...With love, Saif and Kareena”.

The couple tied the knot in 2012, and this is their first child. Kareena has been an inspirational figure for many women during her pregnancy. A role model, who portrayed that pregnancy is a phase in life that should be celebrated, and that shouldn’t be the reason for a woman to stop herself from doing what she wants, or that her career ends after it. We totally agree with Kareena!

We’re really happy for the new couple and can’t wait what the New Year has in store for them and their newest addition! And we’re also eagerly waiting to see more pictures of the little cutie soon, so please Saif and Kareena, grace our screens with the pictures of your little bundle of joy. We’ll be as patient as possible, but try not keep us waiting too long….
