What to eat or not eat on an empty stomach

You wake up in the morning and your first thought is probably what to eat. You are probably tempted to eat something sweet and delicious and drink coffee after that. Is it really such a good move? The first thing you have for your breakfast and eat or drink on the empty stomach is really crucial and may influence both your digestion and mood. Let’s see the list of products that should be allowed or forbidden as eaten first in the morning.

You can consume them after the meals, but not before them. They contain a lot of fruit acid that irritates the stomach which may result in heartburn. Drinking orange juice on an empty stomach can even lead to gastritis! Citrus fruits often cause allergies, and eating them on an empty stomach can escalate unpleasant consequences. Additionally, people who take medication for their allergies should beware of washing them down with grapefruit juice as this may lead to the food poisoning.

Raw vegetables

Even if vegetables are extremely healthy and they need to appear in your everyday diet, you’d better not eat them on an empty stomach. Raw vegetables are stodgy and they release acids that can irritate your stomach. Your stomach digests them very slowly which may lead to heartburn. Also, the skin of the vegetables may even have a more adverse effect on your stomach as it can linger for a long time and cause nausea. So eat raw vegetables but not for your breakfast!

Well, eating a yogurt as the first thing in the morning is not detrimental to your health. However, if you eat a yogurt to benefit from it then you’d better do later during the day. All the beneficial bacteria that can be found in a yogurt have no chance to positively affect your body. When the food encounters a huge amount of acids in your empty stomach then bacteria will be just destroyed in you won’t benefit in any way. So yogurt is ok but after a meal.

You may wonder - what to drink in the morning? And you may in such a rush that you will skip the breakfast and just drink a cup of coffee. This is a wrong habit! Coffee plus empty stomach means harmful aftermath. Drinking coffee, especially quite strong one irritates your stomach and works like a huge burden on your liver and pancreas if you don’t precede this habit with any meal. And if this becomes your routine then you may expect gastritis in some time.

However, it means that you provide your body with empty calories. You feel tired and sleepy.

After a long list of things that you’d better beware of as fist eaten in the morning, it’s time for something that every dietician would recommend you for breakfast. The first thing is eggs! This seems to be a perfect choice! They are rich in protein and nutrients which makes your metabolism more effective and gives you lots of energy this way. Another example? Watermelon! After all, it is full of water and lycopene. This is definitely good for you eyes and heart.

This food won’t irritate your stomach, it will actually prevent any damage done to this organ because of hydrofluoric acid that oatmeal contains. It is also rich in soluble fiber which can only help your metabolism. If you add some nuts to your oatmeal you will boost the good effect of the breakfast even more! They will help your digestion and regulate the pH level in your stomach.
