Celebrities who have beaten cancer
You think that celebrities have everything that they want - fame, wealth, best vacation and they are just perfect? Well, this is probably what some magazines want you to think but in reality, they are not always so immaculate. They are just like you, ordinary, mortal people who suffer from diseases as well. This article presents a couple of actors who had to battle one of the most serious diseases - cancer. Luckily they survived and now can tell us their brave, touching stories.
1. Christina Applegate
Christina Applegate was aware of cancer and its negative consequences as her mum was a breast cancer survivor. That’s why she decided to undergo regular mammograms. The saddest news was revealed after she received an MRI in 2008 and found out that she had a breast cancer. Luckily, after a double mastectomy, she beat cancer. In one of the interview, she confessed: "When I was able to find my cancer in the stage I did, my passion for wanting to do something for these women was beyond what I could express."

2. Lance Armstrong
Lance Armstrong is another cancer survivor. He found out about the diagnosis in October of 1996 and it was not an early stadium as it had already spread to his lungs and brain. However, thanks to immediate chemotherapy he managed to battle this disease. Later, he explained what was the most important thing that helped him "To continue believing in yourself, believing in the doctors, believing in the treatment, believing in whatever I chose to believe in."
3. Mark Ruffalo
It seems that sometimes it’s good to believe in your dreams as it was in Mark Ruffalo's case. He had a dream about a brain tumor and the dream got on his nerves so much that he went to the doctor. Soon it turned out he did have a brain tumor. After a successful therapy, he admitted in an interview "The whole experience of getting close to mortality changed my perspective. I thought I deserved more, and I wasn’t grateful for all the great shit that had happened to me. After the brain tumor happened, I realized I love acting, I’ve always loved it, I may never get a chance to do it again."

4. Hugh Jackman
This popular actor found out about skin cancer in 2013. After one of the surgeries, he uploaded a selfie that showed a band-aid on his nose. And now uses his fame to raise awareness by urging people to wear sunscreen and not ignore regular check-ups. In the end, he needed to have six surgeries to eliminate all the traces of skin cancer and now he gets checked regularly.
5. Rod Stewart
During a routine CAT scan, Rod Stewart was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. You can just imagine how painful it must have been to have a surgery on the singer's throat however it paid off as he was soon cancer-free. Later he confessed "I’m one of the lucky ones. The first thing you think is 'Why?' The next thing you think is 'What can I do to help?". Now Rod just like Hugh Jackman wants to raise awareness and devotes a lot of his time to the City of Hope Foundation which searches for cures regardless of the type of cancer.

6. Kathy Bates
Kathy Bates admitted that cancer is something common in her family as her mum and niece were diagnosed with it and for her aunt, this disease turned out to be fatal. Kathy beat ovarian cancer in 2003 but she didn’t want to risk her life again so after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, she immediately decided to undergo a double mastectomy. At first, she didn’t want to talk about it openly but then regretted that she wasn’t more courageous.
7. Michael C. Hall
Michael C. Hall, an actor known for his role of Dexter, also confessed to having cancer. Luckily, when he was announcing that news the disease was in remission so he already knew that the treatment would be successful. He soon came back to continue his work on Dexter that same year and since that time has been cancer-free. He was very moved by his fans’ support saying "It’s an invitation to be grateful for what I have."

8. Jane Fonda
The first time when she had to struggle with this horrible disease was in 2010 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer but luckily she battled it. Next time it came back to her just a few years later when in January 2018 Jane announced that doctors had removed a cancerous tumor from her lip. Every time she could count on the support which she thanked for on her blog "We got it early and it was, as I said, non-invasive. I want to thank my friends and fans who have written beautiful letters. It has meant a lot to me."
9. Edie Falco
Edie Falco discovered that she has a breast cancer when she was playing Carmela in The Sopranos. At first, she kept it a secret and hardly anyone knew that she was undergoing chemotherapy. The moment she could say she is cancer-free she revealed what changes were prompted in her life because of cancer "For years I’d been waiting to start a family, but surviving cancer has a way of making you re-prioritize. I was 40. And I was single. But it was time. So I began the adoption process."
