Stars who rejected iconic roles and someone else got that chance
Most celebrities are offered so many roles on the daily basis that they don’t want to worry about being unemployed. However, they may sometimes have a dilemma as to what role they should take or decline. It’s hard to predict if the particular movie has a chance to make a profit and make the actors even more famous. It is obvious that they sometimes turn down roles that then become iconic. But it’s too late. Their fellow star gets the chance and bathes in the spotlight.
Emma Watson - La La Land
Emma Watson could have accepted a role in La La Land!
However, due to schedule conflicts with her upcoming movie, Beauty and the Beast, she declined the offer.
"I had to be there to do that and, as I was saying before, you can’t half-arse a project like this – you’re in or you’re out. And I was like, 'I’ve kinda got to be all in', and so this was really where my heart was and I knew I had to fully commit and make sure that I did this."
Fortunately, we could see Emma Stone again with Ryan Gosling.
Gwyneth Paltrow - Titanic
Gwyneth Paltrow rejected the role in Titanic because of the lack of her interest.
The celebrity allegedly turned down the role, saying the movie was not her "cup of tea."
Kate Winslet didn't hesitate too long and grabbed the chance.
Julia Roberts - The Blind Side
Julia Roberts missed a great chance passing the role in The Blind Side to Sandra Bullock.
Sandra Bullock was awarded an Academy Award for Best Actress and was became the best - paid actress of that year!
John Travolta - Forrest Gump
John Travolta once confessed that he made a mistake decline the role in Forrest Gump.
He chose instead to star in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction.
Sean Connery - The Matrix and Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings.
Sean Connery has actually declined two iconic roles.
And he turned them down because... he didn’t understand the scripts.
He said: "I got offered The Lord of the Rings, and I turned it down because I didn't understand it. I was offered The Matrix twice, and I turned it down because I didn't understand it. I don't understand this movie, but I'll be damned if I'm going to turn it down."
Then he regretted turning down both roles.
Nicolas Cage - The Wrestler
Nicolas Cage turned down the role in The Wrestler because he didn’t agree to take steroids, which was an important part of the movie.
"I resigned from the movie because I didn’t think I had enough time to achieve the look of the wrestler who was on steroids, which I would never do."
"The movie was written for Mickey. And, for whatever reason, they couldn’t get the financing for the movie back then," Cage explained.
