World's Saddest Princess In Exile?! Will There Be A Divorce?
While the British royals go through their never-ending problems, other royal families in Europe are also struggling. This time we are going to head over to Monaco ...or more accurately to South Africa right now, where Princess Charlene, wife of Albert II Prince of Monaco, has been hospitalized after collapsing. For a long time, prior to her trip to South Africa, there had been rumors about their marriage and that the Princess was unhappy in it. And most recently some had even suggested that Charlene was in exile! Though what exactly fueled these rumors all this time? And could this couple really be heading for divorce right now? Read on until the very end to find out about the allegedly troubled relationship of this royal couple.
Royal Marriage - Not The First Problems?
Earlier this year in May, the princess and mother of two had traveled to South Africa, where she grew up, in a bid to raise awareness of rhino poaching. The trip, which initially was meant to have been only 12 days long, soon had extended, and that had made people begin to wonder if there had been any issues with regards to her marriage with Prince Albert. The rumors had been around for years as the ruler of Monaco has had a few children out of wedlock, and adding to the previous rumors of infidelity prior to his marriage, and the crying during their wedding about which we’ll talk about in a moment, many internet users had jumped to the conclusion that there was trouble in their marriage.
Princess Charlene Ran Away?
Though not long after her initial announcement of the extension of her trip, in an interview with South Africa’s 702 radio station, Charlene had explained that the delay in her travel was due to health complications. She explained that she had problems equalizing her ears and thanks to her doctors she found that she had a serious sinus infection, which meant she had to stay longer. The former Olympic gold medal winner had added that she would be grounded in South Africa until the end of October as she would not be able to fly above three thousand meters otherwise she would have problems with her ears. However, despite these explanations, once Prince Albert II, who is the son of American film actress Grace Kelly & Prince Rainier III, attended the Tokyo Olympics solo and adding this and the fact she missed their 10th-anniversary celebrations, it didn’t take long for the story to become international press fodder. Sources close to the couple had alleged to France’s ‘Paris Match’ that Charlene has “no intention of returning”. Around the same time, Germany’s ‘Bunte’ claimed that the Princess was househunting near Johannesburg.
Princess Charlene - South Africa
Amid the rumors, the Princess spoke out exclusively with South Africa’s Channel24 where she talked about how the time away from Monaco was difficult for her as she missed her husband and children and the fact she had to miss out on her wedding anniversary was also challenging. Speaking about her husband, however, she said: “Albert is my rock and strength. And without his love and support, I would not have been able to get through this painful time.” Though that is not to say she will be left alone without her loved ones until the end of October! As it was reported by several media outlets in August the prince and the couple’s twins, Princess Gabriella, and Hereditary Prince Jacques had traveled to visit her photos of which Charlene had shared to her official Instagram account later that month. Though make sure to read on until the very end to find out what her husband was so appalled by.
Prince Albert Speaks Up
As it was later revealed by Albert II in an interview with People, Charlene had undergone several medical procedures to combat the infection that she had developed. He had also revealed to reporters that his wife was eager to return home so that she could reunite with her family but this time in Monaco. And at the time it could have been assumed that everything had been going well as the Prince was joking about her desire to come home when he said: "She's jokingly said that she's ready to stowaway on a ship to come back to Europe”, as well as revealing that their recent appointments with the doctors seemed to suggest that maybe she would be able to go back home sooner than expected. However, those plans of returning home might have been put on pause for now as at the start of September the Princess was hospitalized. According to a statement that the palace had shared with People, she was taken to hospital after becoming ill due to complications from a serious ENT (Ear Nose & Throat) infection and that she is being closely observed by her medical team who have said that her condition is reassuring. And while there had been plenty of unconfirmed reports from South African media that suggested that the mother of two had collapsed Wednesday night, News24 who broke the story had reported that her condition has been claimed as “stable”.
Prince Albert Addresses Divorce Rumors
The statement from the palace had also confirmed that she was already discharged from the hospital and back at the Thanda Game Reserve where she had been staying, and they also added that this was not a cause for concern. Though the most recent photo that Charlene had shared to her Instagram, the first since her hospitalization, has supporters of the royal couple breathing a sigh of relief as it looks like she is doing much better. That is something that her husband also talked about in an interview with RMC radio. He did admit that she is still in South Africa but that she will be back very soon, adding that they still have to talk to doctors in a few days. He also talked about the rumors regarding their relationship problems and the idea that Charlene had run away. The Prince was appalled as he said, “She didn’t go into exile. It was absolutely just a medical problem which had to be treated”. Though read on until the end to find out what other problems this royal couple had to deal with in the past.
Royal Couple - Problems From The Beginning?
Though as we mentioned at the very beginning of our video, their relationship was always shrouded in some kind of media speculation and rumors from the very beginning. As some of you might know Charlene Lynette Wittstock is a former Olympic swimmer who in 2011 married Albert II, the reigning Prince of Monaco. Even prior to their special day the media could not help to report that the woman was unhappy and wanted to leave her husband-to-be, and all due to the countless rumors that he was cheating on her and that he had fathered an illegitimate child. Around that time, a French newspaper reported that the princess tried to “flee three times” and once sought refuge in the South African embassy in Paris when she was visiting the city for a wedding dress fitting. After her passport was allegedly taken away from her, the then-bride-to-be was persuaded by senior palace officials to move on with her wedding. Though as the press reported she was supposedly still doubtful and tried to escape again later that same month during the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix. Another French publication had reported that Charlene had her passport confiscated once again by a Monaco official while she was en-route to Nice airport, where she was allegedly attempting to board a one-way flight back to her home country.
Princess Charlene - The World’s Saddest Princess
While these allegations were never confirmed, the rumors continued but despite that, the $55 million wedding went ahead, and once again the Princess made headlines around the world, and for the most part, it wasn’t just to celebrate her tying the knot. Many media outlets around the world had reported that Charlene was crying during the ceremony and as the newlyweds were leaving the cathedral, which in turn had dubbed her the ‘sad princess’. Many speculated the reason for the tears was the constant rumors and accusations with regards to her then-husband’s to-be, infidelity accusations, and given with the prior rumors of her trying to flee, also that she didn’t even want to marry him in the end. Even on their honeymoon, the rumors continued stating that the royal couple had stayed in different hotel rooms. But as you can see, they stayed together, recently celebrating their 10th anniversary, and they have two children together, twins Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques born in December 2014. Make sure to read on to the end to find out what they had said was the reason for the tears.
Princess Charlene - Crying Explained
No matter how much time has passed, the rumors continued and as you can see from what we talked about earlier, still do to this day. The Princess had spoken out about all these speculations in a rare interview with the Times not long after the wedding. Speaking with the reporter she said: “Everything was just so overwhelming and there were all the mixed emotions because of the rumors, and obviously the tension built up and I burst into tears. And then I burst into tears some more because I was thinking "Oh no, now the whole world has seen me cry"'. She later went on to talk about her special day, where the celebrations went on for three days and said that it was all wonderful and that even months after she couldn’t believe that she had The Eagles playing at her wedding and that she kept wondering how they managed to pull it off. Some of the guests of honor who were present at the ceremony ranged from the Monaco royal family, French president Nicolas Sarkozy, Naomi Campbell, and Prince Edward with his wife Sophie.
Princess Charlene & Prince Albert - A Happy Marriage
With all the rumors that had been going around the royal pair, even the princess’s close friend and maid of honor who spoke with the press had said that the entire celebration was wonderful, adding that Charlene had moved to Monaco for love and that it was special. So as you can see, despite all these rumors, it looks like this royal couple is happy to be with each other, despite what the media might suggest with their speculations.
