Raees to be banned in Chattisgarh?

Raees is an upcoming film set to be released on 25th of January. It’s an Indian action crime thriller directed by Rahul Dholakia and produced by Gauri Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under their banners Red Chillies Entertainment and Excel Entertainment. The lead actors of the film are Shah Rukh Khan, Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Although the filmmakers deny it, the film is said to be based on the life of the criminal Abdul Latif. Criticizing the prohibition of alcohol, prostitution, and illegal drugs in Gujarat, this film unfolds the story of a cruel and clever bootlegger (Raees Alam played by Shah Rukh Khan), whose business is highly challenged by tough cop. So why is it being banned in Chattisgarh?

As one of the stars of the film, Mahira Khan being a Pakistani, the film underwent a lot of controversies due to the tensions between India and Pakistan. After Uri terror attack that killed 19 Indian soldiers, the Indian Motions Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) had urged its members not to hire Pakistani actors or technicians in their films until the tensions between the two countries die down.

Akshaye, who has also informed the Red Chillies about the issue said that it’s illegal to stall a film that has been certified by the CBFC for release and that something needs to be done about the threat letter. When PK was released, one of his cinemas was seriously vandalized costing him Rs 6 Lakh for the damage. If one cinema gets vandalized, that will strike fear into the people making them watch it at home and buying pirated copies which will affect the industry.

Raees has confronted different inconveniences inferable from the presence of Mahira Khan in the film when MNS disapproved and required a blanket ban. The discussion was cleverly deflected after SRK visited the party supremo Raj Thackeray and guaranteed him that Mahira would not be a part of any film advancements and neither would he work with Pakistani performing artists in the future.
