Any dog lover in this world would know that their dog has a sixth sense when it comes to understanding human emotional needs. Sometimes you feel like, they just know. When you’re feeling down, a dog can often act as a better confidant than another human. They listen better, respond appropriately to your emotions and seem to genuinely care about your feelings. There are many other fascinating things that your dog may understand about you that you might not have known of.

1. Dogs know when you are sad

Most of the dog lovers know this, but just in case you might not have known dogs can know when you are sad. When you feel unhappy, your dog will pick up on it and adjust his behaviour accordingly. He may become more subdued than usual, lose interest in his toys, or even refuse his food. Dogs love eating so they might reject to eat some food, but, if they actually refuse their favourite treat, someone is sad in your house.

2. Dogs can sense your intentions

We must have all experienced dog’s innate ability to sense when something unpleasant is about to take place. Even before you turn on the shower or touch his towel, your dog will know your intention to give him a bath. Have you noticed that? It turns out that dogs use eye contact and gaze to figure out what people are thinking. So next time your dog's staring into your eyes they know what you’re gonna do next.

3. Dogs can sense any disease you may have

If you find your dog paying close attention to a particular spot on your body, you may want to visit your doctor to make sure everything is okay. Studies have shown that dogs have the ability to detect certain diseases such as cancer with the help of their keen sense of smell. A dog’s sense of smell can be anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 times stronger than humans depending on the breed.

Did you know that if you are scared, dogs can know about it in an instant? Dogs have sensitive noses which can pick up on subtle scents such as adrenalin, which they associate with fear and danger. Big dogs might rush to your protection while small dogs or those with nervous temperaments will follow your lead and start to feel scared themselves. While it may be true for the most part that dogs can smell fear, it is also true that they intuitively understand the body language associated with it.

5. Dogs understand if you suddenly have to attend to other priorities

If you are a real dog lover, you will know how much you spoiled and adored the little guy. But, when we are caught up with other priorities dogs, to some extent, understand if your attention has to suddenly shift to something more important. It may be a Baby, significant other, or even a new pet which can make your little guy jealous. Now that you know they understand, you should remember that they don’t want to be neglected.

6. Dogs can sense your anger

Dog owners who have been long enough with their dog sometimes don’t even have to utter a word to show that they are pissed. Dogs sense when you're angry at them. A study found that dogs display the behaviour of crouching down, trembling, whining and occasionally losing bladder control when they are on the receiving end of discipline even when they didn’t do anything wrong. So, it is clear that dogs can sense anger and it is also clear that they don’t understand the source. So don’t lash out on your dog 1 hour after he did it. It's pretty useless. Do it immediately or don’t do it at all.

7. Dog can tell if you are a Generous Person

Just like how humans judge other humans based on their actions, dogs also pay close attention to how you act with others. During an experiment conducted in Milan, almost all dogs responded to the generous characters when called and avoided the aggressive group. So in conclusion, dogs know when you are being generous and when you're being stingy.

8. Dogs know when you are taking them to the vet

How they can tell the difference between a car ride to the park and trip to the vet is still a mystery to us humans. Have you seen how your dog reacts when you take it to the vet? They start to withdraw from you and run around and basically try to trouble you. As soon as you get him into the car, your dog will already know where it’s going. Most dogs develop a set of anti-lock brakes that makes them impossible to move.

9. Dogs know when you don’t like someone

A chemical reaction takes place within our body when we look at something or someone we love. Feelings of happiness, joy, infatuation or ecstasy occur when the chemical reactions of dopamine and serotonin are released into our system. The same thing pretty much happens when we look at a person we do not particularly like. But in this case the hormones released are related to hate, resentment and fear.
